Finally! Someone making sense...

I want to highlight a piece of Seven's posting entitled "He Said, she said.." which discusses the controversy over the vocals on the new "Michael" album.

But the bit I want to feature actually concerns Michael and his supposed drug use.

Teddy Riley is asked to comment on Michael's drug use and this is what he says:

"He [Michael] would not do it around his friends, or he wouldn't do it around his family. As much as we would stay around, he doesn't mind the company, because he loves company. See, as long as a friend is around, he would not do it. He would stay there and take the pain, because he was in a lot of pain."
Now, I love this quote because it makes sense. Due to all the myriad of people who come forth with contradictory accounts of what type of man Michael was, it can be so confusing to those who never had the privilege to get to know him. Who do we trust? Who can we believe?

But even more than that, this quote for me, dispels the myth that Michael Jackson was a drug addict. Look at this definition of the term "addict":
noun
1.
a person who is addicted to an activity, habit, or substance: a drug addict.
–verb (used with object)
2.
to cause to become physiologically or psychologically dependent on an addictive substance, as alcohol or a narcotic.
3.
to habituate or abandon (oneself) to something compulsively or obsessively: a writer addicted to the use of high-flown language; children addicted to video games.
If you can stop at will, and choose not to take drugs, then how can you be classed as an addict?

  1. Well Karen I am in agreement with you it never make any sense that he was a control addict in denial I never feel he was because when on look at his deadth report and the medecation that was found, I often wonder what addict have left over pill from a year?
It is quite simply when he is in pain or depress or can't sleep he take prescribe drug to help him 90 % of the world live like that but it's not a shame to us so why is it a shame to MJ?

  2. Hello Bridgett,

Welcome to my blog! Yes, it is so unfair for the media to class him as a drug addict when he clearly was not.

And your comment about leftover pills and medications is so true. I don't know if you also heard this ridiculous story - but one TV show tried to infer he was a drug addict because a bag of moldy marijuana was apparently found in the LA home.

Moldy - how many drug addicts would allow their drugs to go moldy?!
